American actor Danny Masterson sentenced to 30 years in prison for rape
American actor Danny Masterson, best known for his role in the comedy series “That ’70s Show,” has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by a Los Angeles court for two counts of rape. This is the maximum sentence that the actor faced.
Danny Masterson has been found guilty of two rape charges and is now facing the consequences of his actions in the justice system.
One of the actor’s victims expressed her feelings regarding this decision, saying, “When you raped me, you stole from me. That’s precisely what rape is, a theft of the spirit. You are pitiful and brutal. The world is better when you remain in prison,” she said, as quoted by the AP news agency.
Another victim, addressing the judge, appealed for Masterson to remain in prison for the safety of all the women he could potentially encounter.
“I am deeply upset. I wish I had reported him to the police earlier,” she added.
Despite having the option to testify in court, Danny Masterson chose to waive that right. His lawyers maintain that the events between him and the women occurred with mutual consent.
According to information from Reuters, the actor is currently planning to file an appeal, asserting his innocence.
It’s also worth noting that the jury did not reach a unanimous decision in the third case in which Masterson was accused of raping his girlfriend.
Recall that in 2003, Danny Masterson and his three accusers were members of the Church of Scientology. The women testified that they had reported the rape to the Church’s authorities but were advised to remain silent on the matter.
